A common question when approaching priests and laity on the importance of the Holy Face devotion is, does it have the approval of the popes?
In this 11 minute video from Anthony Stynes of 'Return to Tradition,' the background to the significant 'papal brief' ( official approval) which Pope Leo XIII gave to the devotion and archconfraternity in Tours in 1885 is discussed.
There then follows quotes from different popes largely on the authenticity of the Shroud but with a focus on the Holy Face and finally there is a rebuttal of false claims that the popes have downgraded the Holy Face devotion.
The language is a bit technical in the original document but you 'll get the gist and it overwhelmingly endorses the devotion as having papal approval. Useful if evangelising on the Holy Face.
